Women in Agronomy (WiA)
At Yara, fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace is not just the right thing to do—it’s essential for driving innovation, prosperity and creating lasting impact.
The Women in Agronomy (WiA) program was created with this vision in mind, breaking down barriers and stereotypes, increasing representation, and shaping a more inclusive agricultural sector.

WiA’s external initiatives are already demonstrating what becomes possible when women receive the tools and a supportive environment to overcome obstacles. Here some success stories to read about:
Colombia
In 2022, Yara launched Mujeres en Agronomía, the first external chapter of the Women in Agronomy program. It focused on empowering female agronomists in our distributor network.
The program reached 11 regions in Colombia (Magdalena, Cesar, Córdoba, Norte de Santander, Antioquia, Tolima, Cundinamarca, Meta, Huila, Valle del Cauca, and Risaralda), where participants joined monthly mentoring, networking, and skill-building sessions. They supported crops like rice, coffee, flowers, potatoes, plantains, and grasslands.
96% of participants reported meaningful personal and professional benefits.
Ecuador
In 2024, Yara launched Women in Agriculture, our first training program for female farmers.
42 rural women from the Ecuadorian provinces of Guayas, Los Ríos, and Tungurahua, took part in modules designed to enhance their skills, knowledge, and confidence. Through knowledge exchange, training in regenerative practices, financial tools, and leadership development. They work with crops such as cocoa, fruits, and vegetables.
India
In 2025, Yara India launched the Women in Agronomy Scholar Award to support and recognize outstanding female PhD scholars in Agronomy, Soil Science, and related agricultural disciplines from ICAR-accredited universities across India.
Created to help bridge the gap between academia and industry, the program provided selected scholars with financial support, six months of mentorship from Yara agronomy and R&D experts, industry exposure, networking opportunities, and professional development sessions focused on research communication and career readiness.
The initiative responds to a significant industry challenge: while women represent nearly 50% of agriculture students and 64.4% of India's agricultural workforce, they remain underrepresented in agronomy and commercial agriculture careers.
Through this program, Yara is helping strengthen the pipeline of future female agronomists, increase diversity in agricultural sciences, and support the next generation of women leaders driving innovation and sustainable agriculture.
Our threefold mission
The impact of the Women in Agronomy program spans three dimensions:
Nurturing future talent
Globally, women represent 38% of agricultural sciences students. We're committed to empowering young women studying agronomy, fostering diversity, and driving change in agricultural sciences.
Increasing professional representation
Yara aims to have 27% of its line management positions held by women by the end of 2026, increasing to 30% by 2030. The Women in Agronomy program plays a crucial role in supporting this target.
Supporting female farmers
Empowering women in agriculture is essential for resilient and sustainable food systems. Our program aims to provide knowledge and resources to enhance productivity, efficiency, and sustainability in rural communities.
A growing network
Started in 2020, the Women in Agronomy program has grown into a global network more than 40 different countries, with 1000+ graduates to date. The program will continue to expand in alignment with our commitment to the agricultural industry and our Mission to responsibly feed the world and protect the planet.

Looking ahead: 2026
Building on these stories, WiA continues to expand with two ongoing projects:
Mexico: Training and supporting female farmers working in berries and citrus, with a focus on agronomy skills, financial management, and community networks.
India: The Women in Agronomy Scholar Award 2025-26, supporting female PhD students in Agronomy or Soil Science through learning sessions, mentoring, and career visibility.
